Mr Crosbie,
Can you please clarify?
What are the ‘clearly defined areas’ that patients will have unescorted access to within the grounds to Aderyn?
Can you please mark up the ‘area’ on the attached plan – how far down the main drive will they be allowed to roam?
How will the ‘area’ be defined for the patients? Will any physical barrier be erected?
Regards
David Owen

Dear Mr Owen
To answer your questions:
1. We are completing the requirements asked of us by Healthcare
Inspectorate Wales. We will then await their decision, although I would
hope that Aderyn will open around the middle of October.
2. When a final decision is made, we will start admitting patients and
will notify Councillor Bryan Jones. As a courtesy, we will also notify
the Head Teacher of the primary school, in case Mr Jones is away.
3. The grounds of Goytre House Lodge (which I assume is the house at the
end of Aderyn's drive) will be out of bounds to our patients. If a
patient absconds, we will telephone the owners of the Lodge, if they are
prepared to give us their phone number.
4. Aderyn will be a rehabilitation service and we will not admit
patients who would pose a risk to the public. All potential patients
will have a comprehensive assessment, including a thorough risk
assessment, before a decision is made whether or not to admit them.
5. Patients will be allowed timed unescorted access to clearly defined
areas of the unit's grounds. The exterior doors will be locked and
patients will have their own individual swipe cards to allow them to
enter/exit the front door. If a patient wishes to gain access to the
grounds he will first have to notify the staff and will give the time of
his expected return. On re-entering the unit, he will notiy the staff.
If a patient fails to adhere to the recognised procedure, his swipe card
will be taken away and his grounds access will be reviewed.
6. If you see someone walking around the area you will probably not know
if he is one of our patients or a member of the public. If you are at
all concerned, we would suggest that you phone the unit.
7. As 6, above.
Regards
Barrie Crosbie
