22nd OCTOBER Statement to South Wales Argus re Outcome of HIW inspection

Statement made to Daniel Lomard South Wales Argus Saturday

Members of the “Goytreaction” group have today received official notification from the Health Care Inspectorate Wales that Aderyn will open
Attached is a copy of the letter we have received.
We still wait to see the statement of purpose mentioned in the letter and are unclear as to the key individuals who have received this document.

As the establishment is NOT REGISTERED to provide treatment to patients who require treatment or care in conditions of security were are presuming that this is offering some comfort that any Criminal Mental Health Patients will have by the time they reach Aderyn have “SERVED” their sentences.

The community still have issues as previously stated with how the Human rights of the residents and children have been taken into account in the placement of this profit making Organisation within the village as well as the human rights of Civil Mental Health Care patients who are housed in the same premises as those criminal cases who have abused the human rights of others. The fact that this is acceptable to the inspectorates
is shocking !!

The Community are still outraged by the lack of Government Policy to ensure that proper planning regulations are required in the event of the change of use of premises and until this is changed there will be many more instances of this happening including the possibility of another Mental Health Care provision (category of patient unknown/provider unknown) opening at Llansabeth House Llanover.

We call on our Politicians to address this situation as a matter of Urgency.

The Action group will reconvene to decide the best course of action following advice o the opening of Aderyn including the possibility of a liaison group to monitor the situation on behalf of residents within the locality.

Helen Oliver
Chair of GoytreAction Group
