FAO Ms Helen Nethercott
Dear Helen,
Thank you for your letter dated 10th August 2006. My wife and I are pleased to learn that HIW & WAG will take into account the ‘location’ to ensure that this is ‘suitable for purpose’ & we are especially glad to see that you are ‘mindful of convention of human rights’.
I’m sure that you will agree that our two children (Girl aged 10 & Boy aged 6) should be allowed to continue to enjoy the freedom to play in the garden of their Grand Parent’s house within the grounds of Beechwood House. After-all our parents were resident in Goytre House Lodge before Partnerships in Care Ltd took over Beechwood House (ex Goytre House). PIC has done nothing to alley our fears, and the public meeting that was held in the Village Hall on 8th June merely increased the fears within the community. As you know we have expressed our personal fears direct to PIC, and we eventually received a reply to our note of 8th June on 2nd Aug 2006 (see attached) and this does very little to reassure us.
As there is no requirement for planning for this ‘change of use’, we have no one else to turn to, and our children’s FREEDOM & SAFETY is in your hands, as well as ALL the children in the neighbouring primary school.
Today’s Abergavenny Chronicle (see attached) features an article where it would appear that the proposed facility has virtually been approved - can you please reassure us that this is not the case.
We are also aware that PIC is pressing on with the refurbishment works, seemingly confident of receiving approval for the new facility. This does not surprise us – as this is typical of their cavalier presumptuous way.
We have previously been advised that a decision will be reached by HIW in early September 2006, and we remain very optimistic that you will make the right one, and turn this application down on the grounds the location is simply not ‘fit for purpose’.
Kind Regards,
David & Lisa Owen
